Holiday Cleaning Tips

The holidays are here…how did that happen?! We can’t tell you where time went, but we can give you tips to make your holiday cleaning go faster and your home is ready for your family Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner, New Year’s party, or any other holiday family gathering.

Prevent the mess

An ounce of prevention saves you time and effort. Place rugs by all the doors. Ask guests to take off their shoes at the door. Make sure your kids rinse off sand and mud before they come in. If possible, use a mudroom as a staging area for your kids, pets and visitors to shed the dirt and snow before they track it into your home.

Clean before you decorate

Dust, wipe down and vacuum your home before you put up holiday decorations. You don’t want to hang pine garland only to find a layer of dust under it. In the same way, clean your floors before you put up your tree. If you have hardwood or laminate floors, make sure you lay a tree protector under a real holiday tree or felt pads on the bottom of an artificial tree to prevent scratches and damage.

Try to keep up with the daily cleaning

A bit of daily cleaning saves you a lot of effort later. Wipe down the counters in the kitchen and bathrooms. Sweep the floor. Clean the bathrooms. Wash dishes. Do as much of the work now so you don’t have to later.

Carry your cleaning products around with you

When you start cleaning your home, gather all your supplies before the cleaning begins and put them in a carrier. If you do so, you won’t have to stop your cleaning to go after another bottle of cleaner. You can just keep moving from room to room, cleaning as you go—and getting done sooner.

Don’t do any more than you have to

If you’re pressed for time, don’t go over and above in your holiday cleaning. Clean the surfaces your guests see, and clean the floors in high-traffic areas. Try to avoid the urge to deep clean or organize your storage areas.

You don’t have to do it all alone. If you feel you need more help with holiday cleaning, contact us about increasing your cleanings, or ask for a free quote.
